Steel carabiners are widely used in work and safety. Activities such as ziplining, rock climbing, slacklining, caving, canyoning, and sailing, and in industrial rope access work, such as construction or zipline building, aluminum carabiners may be used when weight is a factor. In activities where weight is not a factor or where metal on metal is expected, steel carabiners are preferred if not mandated. For zip lining, rope rescues, and industrial carabiner uses, where the weight of the carabiner is not an important factor and larger working loads are encountered, steel carabiners are commonly used.
