Petzl I'D Belay Device Descender

The Petzl ID is a self-braking descender with an anti-panic function built in.

  • Large size is designed for rescue: lacks a gate

  • Small size is designed for work on a rope: the gate on the swinging side plate helps prevent dropping the device

  • Multi-functional handle allows the user to:

    - unblock the rope and control the descent with the hand on the braking side of the rope

    - move more easily on horizontal or low-angle terrain thanks to the button on the handle

    - to position himself while on the rope

  • Anti-panic function is engaged if the user pulls too hard on the handle: the pivoting cam is released and automatically brakes to stop the descent

  • Anti-error safety cam to reduce the risk of an accident due to incorrect installation of the device on the rope. The shape of the cam is designed to improve rope glide during an ascent.

  • Pivoting cam makes it easier to take up the slack in the rope Can also be used to make a reversible haul system, and for short ascents (in conjunction with a FOOTPRO footloop and an ASCENSION handled rope clamp).

Panic is what causes most of the accidents and drops with other assisted locking belay devices. The anti-panic functions meet the needs of programs and adventure course owners by having an assisted locking belay device in use and the needs of new belayers who are more likely to drop climbers on the descent.

For descending a rope and for belaying, with an anti-panic function. Swinging side plate with safety catch: decreases risk of dropping device, allows rapid installation of the rope into the device, increases efficiency when passing intermediate anchor points. Increased safety: anti-error feature to help avoid accidents due to incorrect installation of the rope in the device, Self-braking system: if the handle is released during descent, the cam rotates to pinch the rope and brake the users descent, anti-panic handle: the I'D® will lock onto the rope if the user pulls too hard on the handle. Comfortable to use: to descend, simply pull on the handle; the rate of descent is controlled by varying the grip on the free end of the rope with the other hand, for work positioning, the handle can be rotated to secure the I&#39D® in place on the rope, thus eliminating the need to "tie off" the device. Ascending the rope is possible without changing the position of the device: simply add a footloop and a handled rope clamp / grab. May be used to belay a leader or a second. May be used as a progress capture device in a haul system; allows rapid conversion between raising and lowering.

Once you get up, you need to get down and nothing is easier than a Petzl I'D descender. The I'D gives you unmatched control while descending. The side plates swing open so it easily attaches anywhere on the rope. Once you are locked in, simply pull on the handle while holding onto the rope, controlling the running of the rope by varying the grip of the free end. If you get excited on the way down, the I'D offers unmatched security with its 'anti-panic' function, which means if the user pulls too hard on the handle, the cam will lock on the rope. It's constructed out of anodized aluminum and stainless steel. Handle is made out of fiberglass reinforced nylon for superior strength.

Large size works with most 7/16" - 1/2" (11.5mm-13mm) ropes.

Small size works on most 3/8" - 7/16" (10 and 11.5mm) ropes.

Individually tested and CE approved.

REVIEWS:

Pros: Redundant, Safe, Easy to Learn & Use
Cons: Ascending more difficult than ascenders

"This is an amazing device for its function. We added them to Rope Access protocols for a client, and for rappelling, they are the safest device I have seen, redundant, easy to use and limited rope twist. While you can use them to ascend, it is difficult since you have to pull the rope upwards which tires out the arms a little - regular ascenders are still more efficient."
