The Twin Expedition is the first single-handled dual ascender designed to meet the needs of industry leading arborist professionals.
The EXPTWIN easily accommodates three rope techniques - 2:1 doubled rope technique (DdRT), 1:1 single rope technique (SRT), and 1:1 twin line ascent (DbRT). It is intuitive and easy to use, has redundant safety features, and is the first ascender on the market to use one finger to actuate both cams for one handed downward adjustability.

Cutting Edge...Field Tested...Expedition Proven...Our ascenders have been there on first ascents, grueling expeditions, and daring rescues, always returning to climb another day. CMI Ascenders are chosen by the most demanding users.
Bodies. Our ascender bodies are extruded from aircraft grade aluminum and stainless steel. The aluminum bodies are finished with a hard powder coat to permanently protect them from the elements. All of our ascenders easily accomodate 5/8" ropes. Numerous tie-in points accomodate the largest carabiners in use today.
Springs. The 17-4PH stainless steel springs in our ascenders are tested to over a million cycles, simulating lifetimes of the most demanding use.
Cams. Newly redesigned with a more aggressive grip and a thumb notch to simplify retraction. Cast from 4140 chrome-moly steel and finished with an exclusive non-metallic finish to to give the cams the same corrosion resistance as stainless steel. We guarantee our cams for life--if you can wear one out, we'll replace it--free!
Handgrips. Our molded plastic handgrips fit the contour of the ascender and feature an integrated safety that is easier to use and more comfortable on the hand than any other ascender on the market.
These ascenders have multiple redundancies. It requires the release of a pin (which has a button on it that has to be pressed to release) and pushing in on two levers to open the cams fully. There is a piece of cable with a key ring on it that can be pulled with a single finger to open the cams for up and down adjustment, or can be locked to the side to prevent accidental opening. Even when using the ring, if the safetys have not been removed, the cams cannot be opened fully. I was very, very impressed during the short time I played with this piece of kit.
It's obvious a lot of thought went into building these ascenders and these are actually(in my mind) the first ascender for the arborist market that will require no back ups. The safety features on this thing are phenomenal. There is the ball lock pin that keeps the cams from opening fully, two levers that you depress to just open the cams to install the rope, and one of those levers you have to depress just to remove the ball lock pin. Having back-ups obvious and built in so the climber has to install them is the easiest way to back up an ascender and I think CMI has done this wonderfully.
REVIEW: Since I've had the new CMI Twin Expedition Arborist Ascender, I've come to love it. It has lots of awesome features that CMI has incoporated to make this a true arborist ascender. The numerous safety back ups prevent the rope from popping out of the cams, making this one safe ascender.
REVIEW: I like to footlock shorter ascents (30 ft n under) and have never been able really trust my prussik knot. I weigh 200 lbs and unweighting a prussik was always a real task for me. I am still playing around with these ascenders, and I get a bit worked up when I have a hard time messing with the safety pin with gloves on...but other then its a great tool. I just picked up a left foot pantin and have been playing with a pantin on both feet, and the twin up top for some rope walking. what an awesome way to get up into a tree for long ascents. i would highly recommend the twin.
